Saddle stitching machines, also known as saddle stitching, are used to bind magazines and other printed materials. The saddle stitching process involves printing the magazine pages, then inserting two or more staples, called “stitches,” along the center and trimming the pages to size. The magazine is then folded and packaged for shipping.

Used paper stitching machines are used to bind a variety of materials including:

  • Magazines
  • Catalogs
  • Brochures

Benefits of Binding with Used Saddle Stitching Machines

Saddle stitch and perfect bound are two methods of magazine binding used throughout the printing industry. Perfect bound uses glue to bind pages, where saddle stitch uses staples. They are both highly effective, but there are several benefits to using a saddle stitching:

  • Cost effective method of binding large quantities of items
  • Ideal for long or short run production
  • Versatile and can be used for magazines, brochures and other printed materials
  • Adds minimal bulk to keep shipping weights lower
  • More durable than binding pages with glue

In addition to benefits, there are a few things to keep in mind when deciding whether a pocket stitching is the right option. The first is the number of pages in your documents. If your magazine has more than 80 or so pages or is thicker than 1/4 inch, you should consider another binding method. The flat fold created by a stitches trimmer also means you cannot print anything on the spine of your magazine. When selecting paper and design, it is best to use the same type of paper for the cover and inside pages. Each page will also need to be cut in varying widths to ensure all the pages line up when the magazine is folded over.
